Probably due to the fact that my family is Spanish and that half of my relatives speak Spanish only. I never got into learning Spanish, and well they couldn’t blame me, I only started speaking English when I was six. Before that I was using basic sign language which I have now forgotten.…

It was at this time that Spanish changed for me because I was going to learn how to read, write and speak this language more fluently. It’s the first day of school and I’m already in my second class of the day which was Spanish level 1 and 2 for beginners. The class room is over its capacity because there are roughly about 10 students without seats so they have to sit on the floor. The first week of school was pretty simple in this class mostly just introduction and having to write a few made up stories.…

I was nominated as President of Spanish Club, which empowered me to share my love for the language and culture others, and inspire them to pursue learning Spanish outside of class. I lived twenty miles from the big city of Madrid, Spain in a small town, Las Rozas. I ran down the stairs as if I was in the festival of San Fermin running from the bulls. I took a glance at my mother, who was cooking Torta de Patata, and smiled.…

There are hundreds of different languages spoken across the globe today. It is interesting to note that the United States, one of the most diverse countries in the world, does not have an official language. While English is what a majority of the American population speaks, it is by no means the only language that can be heard here. In California, specifically Southern California, two of the most widely spoken languages are English and Spanish. Often in the past, scholars as well as regular people, made theories and assumptions regarding languages.…

Thus, learning a second language was an academic and psychological challenge for me because Spanish, like English, is complex. I have studied Spanish on high and subsidiary levels by learning the rules of grammar and punctuation. Further, I have studied different linguistic structures, which make up a sentence and how they work, where they work, and why they work as they do. Now, I can confidently say that I am fluent in Spanish and can have conversations with my mother in her native language. My assertive mentality and self-discipline to learn Spanish has allowed me to gain a better comprehension and command of English which is essential for any lawyer in the United…
