My First Foray Into APA

Decent Essays
This class has been extremely informative. I’ve learned so much that I don’t know where to start. First, this was my first foray into APA. I have a much better grip on it than when we started the semester. I’m sure this knowledge will come in handy in future courses. I also gained a sincere appreciation for everything it takes to run a successful library program. Strong leadership and advocacy is just the tip of the iceberg. A librarian’s role is complex and multi-faceted. The important role using evidence-based practice, tied to advocacy and leadership is something I will definitely remember. I was surprised by how much the role of the librarian and library has changed. Maker spaces and 3D printing have turned the library into more than

On my first day as the new law library intern I was very nervous to say the least. Ms. Carol assured me that I would be fine and it would take time for me to know the “ends and outs” of the library. Shortly after I arrived Ms. Carol gave me a tour of the library. She showed me specifically how to work the printer, where the office supplies were located, and most importantly the catalog notebook. In my opinion, the catalog notebook will become an important resource for me to be able to assist patrons on the appropriate legal documents that they may need.…

Administration: Before coming to university I worked for five years as a administration in several large corporations, including N Power, Nationwide Building Society and Zurich Insurance Ltd. Benjamin Franklin once said “These libraries have made the common tradesman and farmers as intelligent as men from other countries.” This perfectly backs up my reasoning that libraries have given the world the opportunity to not be confined and narrow minded but to learn more about our world and the achievements we have made. In fact, many historians have decided to rely on books for information because they are more trustworthy and hold much more information about their topic than website. Back when the internet didn't exist researchers found their information in libraries, which have led to many of today’s discoveries and inventions.…

In life, all people are faced with challenges and difficulties regardless of social status, racial background and desire for knowledge. Few people are given a greater number of hardships than others. How people deal with their circumstances can differ contingent on how everyone around them impacts them. All in all, what makes individuals effective? Success is a result of doing the right thing by learning from and overcoming mistakes and failures, achieving the goals set for oneself, positively affecting the lives of others, and being content in one's circumstances.…

As a running and triathlon coach, getting the best out of athletes is what I do best: regrettably, coaches are so focused on others that they forget to take care of themself. I started the Masters of Public Administration (MPA) program after five years in academic research and teaching. I had lost my passion and took the opportunity to start over again. Last year, my goal was to explore local resources to support professional development as a new member in the community. Understandably, I began with networking with local professional organizations and advocacy groups.…

The author of this article Mrs. Denise Davis is the director of the Office for Research and Statistics of the American Library Association. This shows that Mrs. Davis is capable of accessing and is responsible for the reports mandatory for each library across America to turn in each fiscal year, these reports are used to determine what changes the libraries need to implement to better serve the public. Given her credibility to write on such topics she then chooses a topic each year to write on to prepare libraries and librarians across the country for the upcoming years. In April, Seattle hosted the Century 21 Exposition—aka the Seattle World’s Fair—and the ALA had an exhibit called “Library-21”. The goal of the exhibit was to showcase the role of technology in future libraries. Their exhibit featured a UNIVAC computer, visitors could ask a librarian a question who would then use the UNIVAC to find the answer from the information stored in the computer. The purpose was to show how much quicker and easier the computer made finding answers to reference questions. The other main part of their exhibit focused on microfilm and multiple projection techniques (Davies).…

Prior to enrolling in this course, I have not really taken any class that was strict about citing and referencing sources in APA format. It has been a challenge for me, but through feedback from my instructors I have been able to make headway. Another weakness I see in myself is posting my assignments at the 11th hour. One of my strengths is my willingness to learn new things and this class has afforded me that. Through accredited websites, and reading Masters, I have been exposed to new information I never once new.…

I had no idea what APA format was or how to cite properly. However, the APA citations links that my professor provided were very useful and helped me be successful with the rest of my essays. The videos guided me step by step and were very simple to understand other different type of formats such as MLA, and Chicago. Another resource that was very helpful, were the online class discussions. Online discussions not only helped me interact with my classmates, but helped me broaden my knowledge about the material.…

While perusing the list of notable people within the field of library studies, I came across Judith Krug. I felt that it was serendipitous that I picked out her name as my librarians and I were eagerly discussing plans for Banned Book Week. This American Library Association (ALA) campaign is widely looked forward to not just by myself, but by library teams across the country. It’s only fitting to honor her by researching her accomplishments and continuing her life’s work in preserving intellectual freedom and free speech. The American Psychological Association (APA) style writing was first founded in 1929 by some Scientist and Businessmen to provide some consistency in writing styles (Bethel University, 2014). APA style writing covers elements such as abbreviations, punctuation, and the most important for the students of Bethel University in-text citations and references. Some of the disadvantages are that APA style writing can be confusing sometimes because of the in-text citations and references. If you do not properly know how to cite a reference it can become tough, and that is how plagiarism begins (Bethel University, 2014).…
