The hike was a steep, tiring, and long one. The reason my spot was magical was the treachery one had to go through to get there. Deer will go through many hardships to find a food source, though most hunters wouldn't do the same. "If you wanted to find a deer, you had to think like a deer." My grandpa always said. When I reached my hunting spot before sunrise it was dark and empty. The only sounds one could hear were my deep breaths from climbing up steep ledges; along with the sound of my heart beating like a bass drum. The sound of my heart beat was so loud; I was afraid even deer could hear it from miles away. I had taken a few deep breaths, and the waiting began.

Not only were there deer tracks on every inch of the white snow around me; there were rabbit tracks and coyote tracks too. Tracks of all different shape and size all imprinted in the snow; going all sorts of directions. All of these animals used this orchard as their feeding grounds. Crows began to caw as the sun rose over the mountains, birds began to flutter their wings, and squirrels scurried up the branches. Never have I watched nature for entertainment. The sound of a squirrel gnawing on an apple began to pester me. I thought about shooting it, but it would ruin this beautiful show happening before my
