It is not just for farmers today though, as Farm Bureau has many initiatives both here in Volusia County and throughout the state devoted to youth as the next generation of farmers, ranchers, and beyond the will be responsible for the agriculture industry in the future. Encouraging youth to become involved at a young age opens up opportunities for many with agriculture, as not only a positive influence in life as youth but potential careers and jobs later in life. My first State FFA Convention was the 90th Annual one, complete with lazer shows, a random limo, and getting to eat in Bricktown. And while I had a lot of fun, the biggest thing for me, \was that I really got to learn what the FFA was really about. On top of that, I learned about a few careers, and got to listen to some amazing speakers. All of the speakers had great messages. The first one about living in the moment, the last about tomatos, and how to live a better life.…

A Revision of “From Sports Star to FFA Fanatic” Out of the essays that we have written in class this semester, this Cause and Effect paper proved to be the most challenging to write. I struggled to even pick a topic, let alone formulate a plan for executing the piece. I wanted to write about something that was near and dear to me, and this story was certainly that.…

Just as many young children fantasize about, I went through a variety of answers to the question of “what do you want to be when you grow up,” from a firefighter to deep sea diving to an astronaut, until I began to develop my true passion for agriculture. Being a student in an agricultural education class at my middle school many years ago began to open my eyes to the vast agriculture industry. Although not necessarily a bad thing, many of these programs today are focused on educating students on STEM concepts in agriculture. Very few are seen solely as “farming education” programs today, so I consider myself lucky to have had an instructor who was a retired production farmer from the Midwest who taught me real agriculture along with the scientific…
