My Experience As A Nursing Assistant

It is with great honor to submit this letter of intent to Madonna University’s School of Nursing for the Winter of 2017 Traditional BSN Nursing Program.

From the time that I have graduated from high school to now, I have accomplished so much. For instance, I recently graduated with an Associate in Science degree from Schoolcraft College. Shortly after I graduated, I enrolled into the Nursing Assistant Training Program at Schoolcraft. Upon the completion of the course, I took the state exam and received my license to practice as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Michigan.

Aside from academics, I am also a member of two volunteer agencies: Star Fish and the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), where I have completed various tasks like research

At first I was confused, so I asked what I did. She smiles and tells me that she received a letter from a customer saying that he had a great experience at the store and that he appreciated the time I had taken to help him. I was shocked. I couldn’t understand how something so minuscule, made such a lasting impression. Reflecting back on that moment, I thought to myself that if I could make a difference, even if it is something as small, and as simple as getting someone to smile...then it would be rewarding entering the healthcare field where I could make a difference, even it is small, like I did helping the gentlemen pick out the right patio cushions.

For the remainder of the summer I will continue to attend Schoolcraft College, where I plan on completing two of the remaining prerequisite courses for nursing. Once classes end, I will begin the fall semester at Madonna University, where I intend to complete the remaining classes needed (Pathophysiology, Nutrition, World Language, Statistics and Probability, Microbiology) in order to meet one of the nursing program requirements. Long-term, I hope to enroll in graduate school with plans to become a Pediatric Nurse

This could be very difficult to provide care to those individuals because it requires a lot of hands on care such as showering, using the toilet, and help redirect the patients, especially if they have dementia. Another factor that can affect the daily job tasks of a certified nurse assistant could be the total of residents to one aide or etc. However, no matter what the circumstances are I humble myself while working because I am doing it for a purpose. My purpose is that I am giving back to humanity. Providing care to several patients on an eight hour shift is not a simple task.…

In the nursing field there are over 100 areas to specialize in. This large quantity of options makes it difficult for a young adult to know what he or she would like to specialize in and work with. There are two major ways to explore and find out where one’s calling may be, clinical experience and shadowing. The shadow opportunity was very enlightening. I was able to learn about a new floor of medicine I was not very familiar with; while shadowing a nationally recognized award winning nurse.…

Even though preparing for it took about two years, I believe that I helped to set a foundation that will help me in life. Also it was a perfect representation of my learning style.…

The simulation was a great learning experience to understand that as a nurse it is difficult to prepare for a day because it is a career of unexpected events. I was extremely nervous for the unknown situation and outcome that I was going to be faced with. The simulation started the moment I was doing research for the case study and evaluating key points that could lead me to the patient’s illness. I made a plan with my partner and felt the necessity to follow up despite of the situation. The closest real life experience that was similar to the simulation was when my grandma was in hospice care in her own home dying from stomach cancer and two days prior her death her vomiting increased.…
