Periodic Table of the Elements
My elephant drawing represents potassium. I drew a banana because they are high in potassium. I also drew water (h2o) which is very violent when it hits potassium (k). The elephant itself represents element potassium. The red color of the elephant symbolizes it being burnt from the water. When water hits potassium it creates a massive explosion resulting in the elephant being wounded. The elephant undergoes a lot of corrosive reactions. The ionization decreases and the metal activity increases causing this type of outcome. The symbol 19 in my drawing shows the number of electrons and protons present in element potassium. Since, the banana is high in potassium it shows how unhappy it is joining with water because of the fire that can be created between the 2 elements. This discovery took place in England; the year of 1807. It was founded from the english word “potash” and the arabic word “qali.” The word “qali” means alkali which is potassium's family on the periodic table. Potassium then was recognized as an element when potassium carbonate was mixed with animal fat to make soap. Therefore, it was made by extracting wood ash with water. The name “potash” was derived for potassium salts. The isolation of the element was done through electrolysis of (KOH). The scientist used the same method to isolate sodium. KCI is the mineral that potassium can be obtained from. Caustic potash is a vital source of potassium that can be obtained in Germany, New Mexico, California, and Utah. Potassium is classified as a soft, waxy metal. If it is combined with oxygen it forms potassium superoxide and with water to form potassium hydroxide.
