Reflection On Clinical Education

I found the clinical experience to be very informative and a wonderful experience learning and observing the routines of a public school. After the four walk throughs at the Model Laboratory School, it became very evident that each classroom had their own look and each teacher had their own teaching methods depending on the subject or grade level. The clinicals are extremely important in the process of becoming a teacher as it showed the interaction between students and teachers, which cannot be described in textbooks. It was clear that the teachers had a guideline, the Kentucky Common Core Standard to help them prepare and teach their class as their lesson plans were well laid out. For my first clinical, I observed fourth graders during their science class. The students sat at round tables, which separated them into teams for their jeopardy science game. I was impressed by their ability to retain information they learned previously to answer difficult questions from the game. The teacher, Ms. Teresa Vihol, …show more content…
It was very similar to what you would find in a college lecture, expect the high school teacher had to ask his students what they were doing or ask them questions to see if they are paying attention. I also noticed that most students were taking notes, which is usually not necessarily in lower grades. I also noticed the major of difference of attitude between the teacher and students in high school. It seems as if high school students are less willing to listen or pay attention as well treat teacher with the same respect that would give them when they were in elementary. There 's all the difference of how the teachers treat or talk to their students, in high school students receive a more stricter voice to show who 's in authority while elementary and middle school receive a softer and more encouraging voice.
