My Curly Hair Is Me Essay

Improved Essays
I take pride in who I am. I love being different than everyone around me. “Why pretend to be someone you are not/ When you have something they haven't got” (Bailey). I have extremely curly hair that I absolutely love. When I was in seventh grade I would die to have straight hair. I constantly straightened it until I learned how much damage I had been doing to my hair. I stopped wearing my hair straight so much and left it naturally. Now, I love my hair and would not ever give it up. My curly hair makes me unique. My curly hair give me confidence. My curly hair is me.
Even though I do not have a clear idea of what I want to do with my life, I do have goals I want to acheive. “When you wish upon a star/ Makes no difference who you are/ Anything your heart desires/ Will come to you” (Harline, Washington). The song “When You Wish Upon A Star” helps me know that my dreams are a possibility. If I set my mind to it and work towards what I want, it can happen. I want to pursue my passion of couture. I want to work in the fashion industry and possibly own my own store and clothing line one day. Many people tell me

The main character, Peekay, is driven and believes in chasing his dream. I am very ambitious and have lots of drive to reach my goals. “The power of one is above all things the power to believe in yourself, often well beyond any latent ability you may have previously demonstrated. The mind is the athlete, the body is simply the means it uses to run faster or longer, jump higher, shoot straighter, kick better, swim harder, hit further, or box better” (Courtenay 439). I believe that I can do whatever I set my mind to. Last year, I decided I wanted to be able to do the splits. When I started, the farthest I could go was about a foot off the ground. After stretching every day I could finally do the splits. I set my mind on it and believed I could do it, and was able

It implies that in order to make a difference and to break out of your expectations that you need to be a shooting star, or be amazing at what you’ve chosen to do. When put together, both lines complement each other, the entire message being that you should see things in a positive light and that you have the potential to make your mark in the world. The entire chorus put together is rather inspirational, as if the singer has put his faith in his listener that they are capable of great things in their life as long as they choose to apply themselves. Even if the listener identifies with the singer in the sense that they think they are rather unremarkable, they still have the faith put in them that they will amount to something…

Insecurity Growing up on a farm with two older brothers, I was a bit of a tomboy. From birth until age seven, my favorite toys were Tonka trucks and wooden guns. I wrestled in the mud, ate like a teenage boy, and at the age of five took scissors to my hair, chopping it into a pixie cut, so I could “be like my older brothers”. Innocently, I wore my barn clothes to school and my kindergarten picture displays my hair in a rats nest, with a large crooked smile, and bright eyes. However, that yearbook picture changed as my innocence faded away.…

As a biracial child in America, I never quite fit in. Growing up in Mendocino,California with exactly one “black” girl (myself) in the entire school, I was the go to for questions about rap music, dance moves and slang. I felt as if I was a representative for the entire African American race even though I am just as white as I am black. Once I left the sheltered bubble of Mendocino, I saw more people that didn’t look like me which left me in an identity crisis, everyone had a community except for me. My African family praised my fairness, and adored my curly tresses, but my white family didn't understand what to do with it.…

I have felt so confused and overwhelmed not knowing what I am going to do with the rest of my life. If someone has not already thought of this, they most likely will because the majority of people have to have serious questions based upon what they want to make a career out of. However, some people have always known what they feel passionate about and can make a career out of. Ever since I was young, I have always loved houses from interior to exterior and even structurally with floor plans. In third grade, I decided I wanted to be an interior designer and it was not until last year, my junior year in high school, that I figured out it would not be the best job field for me.…

Description of event: I feel like college, at least for me, has been rooted to be a defining factor of getting a good job, or even living a good life. I grew up with a mother who didn't finish high school, and a sister who is still contemplating what she ultimately wants to do. Side note, I think she's going to be one of those people constantly having to do something new, just based on recent occurrences. Due to these factors, I never really had anyone in my life who went through the typical four years of college, got a degree, and worked from it. I think I caught myself having some judgemental thoughts here and there, about those who are unsure of what they want to do, or have no clear path they want to follow.…

Special Interest of mine includes styling clothes, styling interior spaces, working at Soiree Boutique, and one day owning my very own boutique.…

My high school years consisted of close minded individuals who judged people based on how they dressed and belittled other races struggles. Growing up and never being part of the majority, I was taught to acknowledge the fact that everyone 's self struggles are just as important as mine. I am an egalitarian that believe everyone should be treated equally regardless of their race, complexion, beliefs and so forth. I’m the type of person that lives by the golden rule: treat others the way you’d like to be treated.
