My AP Environment Analysis

Decent Essays
Throughout my life applying what I have learned has always excited me, especially when it pertains to the environment. In my AP Environmental Science class there were many intriguing units including the renewable energy unit and the world's garbage problem unit. With each and every concept, I evaluated and implemented what I learned as much as possible to my lifestyle. I was amazed by the actions that I could do as an individual to better the environment, and so I set out to apply what I was learning.

During the renewable energy unit, I was surprised to hear about the numerous eco-friendly technologies and renewable energy resources that exist. Unfortunately, the United States has used coal to power many cities in the country. Excited about

CORE “?” PRO 3: Journalist Richard Schiffman is also in favor of a change in out electricity production. In Schiffman’s article, “Why the Shift to Alternate Energies Continues, Despite Shale Boom” he focuses on the benefits that we will begin to see as we switch from fossil fuels to forms of energy such as solar and wind. He believes that no matter the upfront costs, both economically and socially, the benefits will quickly arise and outweigh the costs. These benefits will come from lower electric bills, no longer having to depend on global oil prices, and also an overall cleaner environment. Schiffman acknowledges the greater cost of building and installing solar and wind farms but also points out that once these costs are over with, the operation and maintenance costs are far lower than that of fossil fuels.…

However, my teacher kept informing me that my writing needs to improve to reach the college level. Yet I continued to complete assignments without understanding the mistakes, simply to earn the grade for because I turned an essay in.…

Reiterating what we discussed earlier, that Wind energy in U.S. has the potential to generate about 1.5 times the current U.S. demand, even the 20% penetration of wind by 2030 as projected by the U.S. government, can have a significant impact on the carbon emissions and reduction in the demand of fossil fuels (exhaustible energy sources). As a study conducted by NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory), the cumulative carbon emissions reduction of 2100 MMTCE (Million Metric tonnes of Carbon Emission) can be achieved just by the penetration of 20% Wind Energy. Furthermore during the 20 year life cycle of wind turbine additional 4000 MMTCE of carbon emissions can be avoided. Also by replacing coal with wind energy will decrease the water usage…

It is the dawn of a new age with less pollutants and healthy for our new generation. There are many people that may say that renewable energy is unstable because it depends on the weather. This may be true, but there are many sources of renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, wave energy, hydrological energy, biomass energy and more (“Renewable energy and non-renewable energy resources”). If each city has them all it would be impossible to run out of energy. On the other hand non-renewable energy sources such as burning fossil fuels cause great pollution which doesn’t harm anybody except us.…
