Music Personal Statement

Stevie Wonder said, "Music is a World within itself, with a language we all understand. In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the earth. No one ever explains why. People speculate and come to reasonable conclusions about it, but in the book of Genesis, this mystery is never explained. I think that creating is just incredible, especially being able to create the world. I believe through music I am able to create a world for people to live in, orchestrate emotions for them to experience, give a vision for them to see, and speak a language that all cultures can understand. The thought of that alone is amazing and it is that thought that interest me most.

Every composer no matter what world they have created with their music has had to live in the world of music formed by composers before them. Just as we marvel and live in the world we live in today that was created by someone else long ago, I marvel at the world created by composers that I have been able to explore. I grew up being an interpreter of pieces played on the piano. My ambition was to gain the knowledge and skill to play compositions of the likes of Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach. Once I was able to accomplish that, I began to see the possibilities of creating my own world of music. I realized that music took the pain away from me, separated me from time and problems in my life. I wanted to be able to provide the same feelings to others through

My grandmother is the reason why I touched the piano. She took the time to teach me and allowed me the freedom to grow musically. I always pondered about how and why these pieces of music were composed. Often times I would ask her to explain the music she had me studying. A majority of the questions I asked revolved around the pieces in the composition like articulation, harmony, melody, and its rhythm.
