Mozart is a classical musician that everyone has heard about. His tantalizing music has captured the attention of multiple generations around the world. However, most people only learn about him when they are teenagers or young adults. What would happen if children were exposed to his music and other genres? This question has been asked by many people and studies have been created to find the answer. While music can be distracting, listening to music at a young age in school is beneficial for students because it can create a love for learning, it improves intellectual skills, and it increases language skills.
Specific types of music can induce different emotions, which means that playing music in school that creates happy emotions will help students thrive in their learning environment. A study in the fall of 2016 has shown that students used more descriptive terms and also wrote more while soothing music was playing in the background during a writing session. This process is called the MAYAZ technique and by using this process, “it was seen that the background music contributed to the pupils’ fluent writing skills” [Doc. 1]. This was also true when the students had music playing while studying. Students will write more comfortably and in a better manner if they are exposed to soothing background music. It is true that playing music during work time in school can be a distraction to some students. Despite that, those students can be allowed to leave the room or be given headphones to block out the music.
