This piece was composed in the Romantic stylistic period. The tone color of this piece was warm and ringing. The tempo seemed to be random through out this march, but the style was very fast paced. A clarinet was used in the trio, which was the most contrasting part of the piece. In my opinion this piece was very nice to listen to considering I am not a huge fan of marches. The third piece performed was “Wind Quintet Op. 43” composed by Carl Nielson. This piece consists of modern and neo-classical characteristics. The first movement is a sonata allegro. This movement is a prelude set in the dominant E major. The second movement is a minuet in A major. It sounded to me like a duet between the flute and oboe. The last movement was the most complex of the three. In my opinion this last set of variations was slow and boring. The fourth piece was “Symphony of the Winds” composed by Nicolas Flagello. There were three movements included in this piece. The first is a moderato comodo, the second an aria, and the third a fuga. The variety in rhythm effectively represented the dark and gloomy emotions in this piece. Flagello uses the wind band to create an impressive outcome, as well as creating a more peaceful closing. Out of all six pieces I would have to say this one is my
