To incorporate the expressive part, I will use Music to enhance creativity during writing/journaling time and use Music to help students calm down from recess and refocus their attention. I will encourage creativity through Art in our observations in Science, drawing out math problems, and reinforcing their writing through illustration. Sometimes we get so caught up in test scores that we forget that we need room in our day for songs and silliness. In the textbook, David Ling, the school physics teacher, asked a series of questions and sparked the kid’s interest, helping them to expand their curiosity (Kauchak & Eggen, 2014, p 7-8). Just as David Ling did, I want to create that sense of wonder. My biggest inspiration for creating that type of environment is The Magic School Bus. As silly as it may sound, Ms. Frizzle exemplifies what I strive to be. Although a cartoon, she lets her students ask why and together the class will problem solve to find the solution. I want to be that teacher that makes kids want to be at school. Throughout my career, I hope to establish future leaders that are well-mannered, curious, yet expressive members of society.
