The heart is located in the pericardial cavity, surrounded by the pericardium, also called the pericardial sac. I am not all that familiar, or comfortable with the cardiac system. Muscles, and neurology are my strong areas. From what I am understanding is the pathways of blood through the heart is that first all blood enters the heart through the superior and inferior vena cava, which are dubbed SVC and IVC. The Inferior vena cava has a primary job of receiving blood from the lower extremities and the abdominopelvic cavities and it also has to empty the right atrium.
