LOCATION:
An investigation took place of the Murray River and its connection to the Aboriginal People. The Murray River spans across three states, they are: South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. In South Australia’s part of the river it is enclosed in floodgates to prevent flooding. The river has a total of 1061469 square kilometres. It flows between cliffs that are over thirty metres high.
ABORIGINAL PEOPLE:
The Aboriginal people settled near the Murray River over 40000 years ago. The main Aboriginal tribe that lives there is called the Barkindji people or tribe.

Known by many names, the serpent moved across the land, carving the landscape with its long and powerful body. Aboriginal people believe the Rainbow Serpent moves into the river from its resting places in nearby water holes and billabongs to cleanse the rivers and their people.
A Dreaming story specific to the creation of the River Murray is that of Ngurunderi, the all-powerful ancestor of the Ngarrindjeri people, whose Nation is in the Coorong region of South Australia. It was Ngurunderi's long journey to the Coorong that created the River Murray and its landscape.
While there are several different recounts of Ngurunderi's story, the common theme is his long chase of the Murray cod (Ponde), towards the Murray Mouth. As Ponde swam to escape Ngurunderi's spear, the wide sweeps of his tail widened the river and created its bends and turns. In the upper Murray, the creator of the river is an ancestral cod called Otchout who created the Murray while pursued by the hunter
