Murong Xuecun The Accident

In the story "The Accident," by Murong Xuecun, there is one character in particular whose name is Old Wei that I can relate to. We all encounter accidents whether we see them coming or not. Car accidents are common throughout the year, across the country. I have experience being in a car accident before just like Old Wei has. My first reaction was just like he said, "My mind went blank and I stopped the car. Night was falling and a hubbub surrounded the scene of the accident." After the car accident occur Old Wei also thought while sitting in the car, "Whatever you do my friend, please don't be dead. Driving after drinking, making an illegal turn. If you are dead then I might as well be too." I can find myself saying these same words if it …show more content…
I believe it is okay to try to get help in a situation like a car accident, but not to the point to treat others as inferior, judging by their appearance. Old Wei thought the farmer had shitty luck and laughed inside in couple circumstances when he saw things were going his way. He got to the point that he worried more about the car than the circumstances of the old farmer. The farmer in tears told Old Wei, "I only have this much, otherwise you can take the motorbike." Old Wei feeling superior referred to the old farmer's motorcycle as scrap. This is one reaction I would not ever take, this is just not being human. What is most valuable for one may not be for another, but it is still something we must respect. At the end of the story Old Wei described the old farmer face as pale as rice-paper and says that his hand was pressed against his stomach as he coughed and coughed, with blood dripping down his face. He states, "We exchanged glances and then I looked away as if nothing had happened. The transport cops have dealt with this, I thought. Why should I go looking for trouble by doing anything for this guy? I stepped on the gas and continued on." There is no way I would have stepped on the gas. I would have helped the old farmer out knowing that everything he is going through was my fault due to being an irresponsible

I've always heard that drivers should practice "defensive driving. " It makes sense, we all know how big a car is and how fast it can go, you can find all of those numbers somewhere on the car itself. We all know someone who has been in an accident, be it minor or major. When cars collide, it can be catastrophic and everyone knows it well. But somehow, at least for me, the idea of it actually all being real didn't happen until I had gotten into an accident where I was forced to deal with the consequences of even a minor collision.…

Dave Eggers’ Accident chronicles a character through a second person narration undergoing a hellish accident that nearly strips the lives of a few teenagers. This short story reveals the tragedy and heart-hammering disaster as a battle between oneself during the aftermath; the nameless character’s first and foremost concern is how the teenagers will treat them for their moment of dull-wittedness of drinking while driving. Accident illustrates how a mishap that could possibly give ruin to one’s constitution delivers a hard lesson of contact, thankfulness, and love. Upon inspecting the damage of a crash, Accident shows the inner-monologue of the tragedy and shows that the first worry is whether or not the other driver is injured.…

I have been in the car dozens of times with my grandmother, Nanny Jo, as she likes to be called, and every time she drives, I get this feeling that she shouldn 't be driving. I don 't know what makes me feel that way, maybe it 's the fact that she is 78 years old and can barely see over the steering wheel or that she feels the majority rules of the road do not apply to her. I personally think it is because in 78 years of driving she has never been in a major accident and she feels impervious to accidents. As Nanny Jo has gotten older, my mom and aunt have discussed whether she should be driving. Each time they have come to the same conclusion that although it is a little dangerous for her to drive, the freedom she has to go to the park or visit…

Its not every day that the President writes an op-ed in favor of new technology. But that’s exactly what Obama did on September 19, penning an article for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the need for safe, reliable regulations around driverless cars. Establish Credibility: After doing a thorough research and going through several journals and peer reviews I can now say that the driverless car is a future not so away from us. Even MIT and Stanford students has started conducting surveys with moral machines where they are trying to teach a car to make moral decisions in case of severe accidents.…

That day I came to a full realization of how reckless people are and how they completely disregard their safety and others. They take their lives for granted and don’t think about how their actions will or might affect others lives. These reckless people also rely on others to respond quickly enough to react of adapt to the situation they have been forced into to prevent loss of life.…
