The Tale of Genji, Murasaki Shikibu’s epic length novel penetrates the psychological, political, and romantic workings of mid-Heian Japan. The world of the Tale of Genji is aristocratic Japan in which the society was polygamous and imperial. The court society sought out chapters, which served as the subject of the novel. Ladies in waiting and courtiers even pilfered unrevised copies, according to legends. The novel earned her notoriety even in the early eleventh century, some six hundreds years before the printing press made it available to the masses. Even after thousands of year her novel continue to delight an enthusiastic audience. Because of Murasaki Shikibu’s creation Genji, she has achieved national treasure status in Japan and admiration
