This study involves a simple between subject experiment that includes one independent variable and one dependent variable. The independent variable is multitasking which will consist of two separate levels. The two levels for this study would be the experimental group which will be asked to complete multiple tasks while the control group will be required to complete just one task. Memory will be the dependent variable. Memory will be measured as a result of the effects of multitasking and memory recall.
Participants
The participants will be selected by random sampling. There will be a total of 60 undergraduate students at Texas A & M International University in Laredo, Texas. Students can be majoring any subject. Participants must have basic knowledge in IPod and computer devices. To participate in this study, students must visit the psychology laboratory at TAMIU located in the Canseco building room 205 (CNS 205). Prior to the beginning of the study, participants will also be given an informed consent form (see Appendix B). The consent form will explain in detail the experiment and will give the participant information in regards to the experiment such as, the purpose of the study, possible risks, benefits and contact information in case of further questions. Additionally, the informed consent will also explain the participant right to withdraw from the study at any time, with any further questions asked. Furthermore, once the participants have already given consent of their participation in the research, researchers will proceed to randomly assigned to either experimental or control group.
