Multicultural Presentation Paper

While listening to each multicultural presentation, I was able to learn about many different things and concepts, which I had never heard about before. Each group did a different lesson and informed the class about different subjects. Each group also gave great examples of different lessons we can use one day in the classroom to incorporate multicultural education into each students daily lives. The first presentation I really enjoyed and learned from was Paige, Jenna, and Lexi’s presentation. They did a presentation targeted to a 5th grade class. They first started by teaching the history of origami and where it came from. They also told of a popular story involving an origami crane. They then began teaching how to make an origami crane, …show more content…
In 8th grade the number 0 is very important and because they don’t have a symbol for 0 it would have been important for them to elaborate on what the Egyptians did without the number 0. If they didn’t want to elaborate on this they could just make their targeted grade level younger. This would have worked because the lesson itself wasn’t that hard and could have been completed at third or fourth grade level. Overall, their presentation was very informative and I really enjoyed learning about a different cultures numbers and how they use them. Another group I really enjoyed and learned from was Josh, Haley, and Jason. They taught a lesson about instruments around the world and was a lesson for 4th grade students. They brought in materials for each group to make their own instruments, but also taught us the historical background about each instrument they brought in. I really enjoyed how they allowed each group to make their own instrument instead of just brining in the instruments for us. It meant each person could have an instrument and it also would be interesting for kids to get to make their own instruments and then use them. I also really enjoyed the historical background they gave. I have seen drums, and moraccas, and a guiro, however, I didn’t know anything about them or how they are played correctly. They also did a great job at showing short videos of each instrument being played so each group knew exactly how to play what they were given and

One thing as a teacher you have to be culturally competent, you have to know about your student and their background. By knowing your student, their family, their culture, you will know more about why the student is the way he or she is and why they do things the way they do. Teachers can always do research to get to know their students, to get to know the family. One great way to get the whole class involved is so have a class presentation, where the students talk about their cultures. You have to be open minded and willing to learn to be able to connect with the multicultural community.…

The source is written by many different authors and it is mainly edited by the 4 authors mentioned above. These authors are one of the best scholars that tackle the controversial ideas of diversity, and Canadian policies. It respectfully challenges the saint idea that multiculturalism is great for Canada, however it does not claim Multiculturalism is actually bad. It continually demonstrates the underlying capability, the conventional restraints and the miniscule disorders of the policies and blinding discourse of multiculturalism.…

On October 20, 2015 I had the pleasure of watching the University Jazz Ensemble II at the University of Louisville in Comstock. I have now been to a handful of jazz performances and I would have to say that this is my favorite. In this jazz ensemble, Jerry stated this particular ensemble was full of music majors, jazz majors, music educators, and graduates. I like seeing jazz ensembles that are mixed up with young and old, male and female.…

The Baylor University Early Ensembles performance was titled “Selva morale e spirtuale: Festa Natale di Monteverdi”. There were 5 performers; three of whom played violin, one recorder, and one harpsicord player. All of the instruments were replicas of instruments played during the time period in Venice. The violin’s strings were made out of guts and the humidity of the room caused them to frequently be out of tune, so before every song they need to be tuned with the harpsicord. The concert was filled with songs mostly by Monteverdi, and a few songs that were common in the time period.…

My experience at the Heartbeat workshop and Spirits Rising concert was both educational and enjoyable. These events explored the culture of the Native Americans of the Great Lakes area. The workshop included participation in traditional dance, an example of both traditional and arranged music, a version of the Native American creation story, and a summary of the culture throughout history. The concert was an excellent opportunity to learn through observation, but I mostly took the chance to enjoy a new type of music. It also included audience participation in a traditional round dance and continuing access to their music.…

It was nice to see the techniques we learned in class used in a live performance. When the person playing the timpani was playing constant quarter notes, her stroke was almost identical for every note. It was hard to see the rolls happening on the snare drum, but I noticed that the technique is similar for bass drum. When rolling a decrescendo, he moved from the center of the drum out and the rolls became slower as he got closer to the rim. I also thought it was interesting that he used traditional grip when rolling on the bass drum.…

The individual that I chose for my interview is a 37 year old male who was born and raised in Germany, but presently resides in northern Indiana. He relocated to the United States for work-related reasons. His name is Michael Drue and he is, at this time, married to my first cousin Krisha, a native English speaker, having been born in the United States. I chose Michael as the person of interest for my intercultural interview not only because he is speaks English as a second language, but also because of the point of view he was able to give me regarding the difficulties that language and cultural barriers may present in an interpersonal relationship. When I enquired at what age he was when he started to learn English as his second language,…

This concert took place at the University of Missouri St. Louis’s campus, in the Lee Theatre, on November 30th, 2016. This was a concert for students studying music at UMSL, in order to showcase their talents through performing chamber music. Majority of the audience appeared to be friends and family of the students performing, making the concert a bit more of a laid back feel. Each song was played by a different small group, sizes were anywhere from trios and quartets to all of the performers for the ending piece. The first piece was “Terzetto in C Major,” played by a trio of female musicians, two with violins and the other with a viola.…

I attended the Stones River Chamber Players on February 29th. This was played in the Hilton Music Hall. When I was going in I did not know what to expect because I have never been to a music concert on the MTSU campus. There were around 60-70 people who attended this concert. Most of the individuals who attended were more than likely there for a class because more than half were students who did not understand the concept of staying off of their phone.…
