Mountain Equipment Coop used Kantian Ethics to respect the dignity of each individual human right. The management of MEC demonstrated the principle-based theories that consider the intent and acts done with the right intent through human rights and labour representatives, which established an independent monitoring team and a code of conduct. (Tittle, 2017).
Moreover, a rational person will not universalize a moral rule that would result in harm, this shows in the rule of treating members and employees rationally and respect their autonomy.

The Coop focused on tracking and reducing carbon emissions from stores and offices, product transport, business travel, employee commuting, and waste.
In addition, the Board respects and value the rights of workers in all countries where MEC-label clothing and gear are made through the use of social responsibility team in order to improve working conditions in the factories. The team and third-party auditors inspect factory conditions, go over payroll, interact with the managers, workers and address any outstanding issues (Mountain Equipment Coop, 2017).
MEC’s program is monitored by the Fair Labor Association (FLA) that oversees social responsibility program, looks at progress to make sure MEC commitments to workers are happening, and report on any improvements needs.
Governance and Sustainability
MEC used transparency and accountability in its corporate governance, which affect the relationship between the Board, members, employees, and ultimately the society. The Duty-Based Ethic allowed MEC to leave room for respect and participation of members and employees in decision making. This was achieved through the Fair Trade Certified MEC products that paid a special fund managed by the factory workers who made them.
