In chapter five physical development in infancy and toddlerhood this reading emphasize’s on motor development. The definition of motor development refers to the development of a child's bones, muscles and ability to move around and manipulate his or her environment. Motor skills are a milestone in a parents life in consideration of there child taking their first steps to speaking their first words. “ When motor skills work as a system, separate abilities blend together, each cooperating with others to produce more effective ways of exploring and controlling the environment.” ( Berk and Meyers pg.181) When I read that quote I think about the article Your child’s brain by Sharon Begley as a result of how your child’s brain works and how it is developing every day. My nephew when he was seven months he was crawling and then when he was eleven months he was walking alone. When he started walking he was very observant about what he see’s and hears. Hearing and sight is very important to a baby because that is were they pick up their language and how they play with others. “ As infants listen to people talk, they learn to focus on meaningful sound variations.” (Berk and Meyers pg.184) This information from the textbooks makes me see how my nephew who is one years old interacts with us. He does not talk in sentences but points and makes noises to things that he might want. The variations of sounds he makes is due to him trying to speak but for now he is picks up small words like stop and mom due to the people in his surrounds that say those words frequently.
The reading I did from my textbook really opened my mind in how babies are always learning new things, they pick up what they see very quickly and the way their brain and bodies grow is
