(Discuss Beowulf’s motivations)
Have you ever done something in your life because you wanted to show people who you truly are and how you act for real and not what people think you are. What are some things that you do to show people what you truly are? In the story Beowulf he goes and fights monsters to show people about his duty, glory and his sacrifices that he makes to show people what he truly is. The story of Beowulf doesn’t have an other so we don’t know who writes it. But Beowulf lives in Heorot and goes to Jutes Danes to visit the king to ask if he could fight the monster that has been terrorizing the town. The three motivations of Beowulf is duty, glory and sacrifice.
The first motivation is duty. Beowulf had a duty to kill the monster that has been terrorizing the town and eating a bunch of the people who would eat in the mead halls. Beowulf does a lot of things that could possible get him killed and he doesn’t care. He's not thinking about whether he will die or not he's thinking about the people he is saving and who he is helping. When he went to fight the big dragon he was told to remember that some day you're not going to be you're going to need help from younger people. So Beowulf got a group of people together to help him kill the dragon and all but one person stayed to help when they seen how big the dragon really was. He had no other choice, but to take on the dragon on himself. He doesn’t want to keep all the money from the dragon’s cave, he wants to give it to all his people of the town. He wants to have a light house put up in his memory so people will be able to use his life as a guide. “As Beowulf fell back its breath flared and he suffered, wrapped around in swirling Flames a king before, but now a beaten warrior.” (page 58 line
