Every person wants to be the best athlete they can be, but you must be motivated to do what it takes to increase your talent and accomplish the goals that you have set for yourself. Motivation is key in all sports no matter what the sport may be. You can have all the confidence, intensity, and focus in the world, but without the desire and determination to do your best; all of the other things mean nothing. Motivation is defined as the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. Motivation is what causes us to act. (Kendra Cherry, 2013). With that definition being said, to perform at your best ability you must want to develop as an athlete and be willing to continue your efforts until you have reached the goals you have set for yourself. Just like any other team, we won some games and we lost some. There is one particular game that I remember better than any other game. My team was losing 11 to 3 and we only had one more chance to score runs to win the game. At this point in the game since it was about to be over, most of the team had already given up and decided they were not having fun anymore. Everyone was tired, discouraged, and just ready to get the game over with so we could go home. This is where motivation really comes into play. The team had to dig deep and find the hope and motivation to keep going and to not give up, and that is exactly what we did. We had a goal set to win the game. Even though we were losing by 7 points, we had to keep going and do the best that we could to achieve the goal we set for ourselves. Thanks to the motivation that we had, we came out with a 12 to 11 victory. That could also be an example of an intrinsic motivation. We were not playing to get a trophy, but we were playing to show people that we had it in us to not give up. We played for the satisfaction of just winning the
