When Carley wakes up she goes to talk to Mrs. Murphy who is ironing. While they are talking, Carley asked Mrs. Murphy if she could call her mom, but Mrs. Murphy says she thinks that it would be a bad idea. This really hurts Carley, and she asked Mrs. Murphy to leave her alone until she leaves. Carley feels like the Murphy’s are the family that she will never have. In the days following, Carley ignores Mrs. Murphy and rejects all of Mrs. Murphy’s offers to talk. After opening Mother's Day cards, Mrs. Murphy comes to Carley’s room, and she tells her that her biological mother wants to see her.
