From the time we started school, we have been taught to compare and contrast. In math class, we would compare shapes and prices. In science, we would contrast chemicals. In everyday life, we compare and contrast, sometimes subconsciously. After years of doing it in school, you then to notice the similarities and differences between books and movies. A great example of this would be The Most Dangerous Game and High Noon. Both have strong main characters that face danger in an isolated environment, though the tone used is somewhat different. The Most Dangerous Game and High Noon share a similar setting and theme, but their tones vary.

The two stories have a similar plot in the sense that they both have a male main character, who is being chased and threatened by a bad guy who is out to kill, in a place with no where to run and no one to help him. "I expect he'll come looking for me" (Foreman 296). Frank Miller is High Noon's antagonist, and he wants to kill Will Kane for sending him to prison. "The Cossack was the cat; he was the mouse" (Connell). The refers to General Zaroff as a cat, who is chasing the mouse, in this case, Rainsford; General Zaroff is hunting down Rainsford and wants to kill him. The protagonists in both works of fiction are being chased by the antagonist with the intention of killing him.
Literature often can be linked together and share common characteristics. High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game for example share a common plot and setting, but they differ in tones. High Noon has a solemn tone compared to The Most Dangerous Game's determined and resilient tone. Both stories picture the main characters in an isolated setting and with no help available.
