Blood clots are known as venous thromboses and they come in many forms linked with different parts of the body. The gene mutation that causes the most common types of thrombophilia is called Factor V Leiden. Within the European population, around 5,000 people have two copies of this mutation within their chromosomes making them the most affected. Other populations like the African or Indonesian population are less susceptible to thrombophilia. This is due to the weather as the cold has an effect upon the heart and the way the blood is pumped around the body. For example, in England it is cold most of the year meaning English people have to find methods of keeping themselves warm however, the heart can only pump blood around the body to keep the body warm.
