Communication relies upon satellites now a days, but old technology has a way of creeping its way back in, since it is simple, relatively cheap, and does not depend on the fragile grid systems of modern technology. Morse code operators stand ready to help in dire emergencies, grid failures, or war. For instance, an American soldier was captured by Japan and they, for the first time ever, made a live video stream telling the soldier to say that they were not hurting him and were feeding him well. Meanwhile, he was blinking “torture” in morse code. That was a big part of history. From then on the U.S. knew that Japan was torturing our soldiers.
Tragedy can drive us to do good or bad in this case Samuel Morse chose good. He invented a way of communication that has continued to help us today. Without Morse code, families would not have been able to communicate as quickly, and we would not have known that our soldiers were being tortured. This communication tool is still used
