A Character Analysis Of Odysseus In Homer's The Odyssey

The Odyssey is one of the most known Greek Mythology to the point where everyone has heard about it or read it. Its stories are deeply ingrained in our race, our culture, our history, that it’s essentially an enormous set of morals, or life lessons in a book. In one chapter in the book, Odysseus attended an assembly of major peoples at the palace of King Alcinous, and the singer at the assembly, Demodocus, sang the tragic tale of the “Trojan War”. Odysseus immediately broke into tears, remembering the predicament he was in 10 years ago, and the King who held the assembly stopped Demodocus from singing, and started the games. After that, dinner was held, where Demodocus started to sing the Trojan war all over again. The loss of a very close friend can lead to depression, which was the state Odysseus was at. The message from that quote is self-evident in the modern day society that we live in. We all have friends that we can rely on, we trust them like they were our brothers. The Odyssey, foretold the metaphor of a strong bond between friends, and T. E Lawrence, translated the quote in a way to show that strong Friendship is equal to brotherhood One of the many other places moral could have been found was when Penelope, husband of Odysseus, was talking to a beggar, and invited him to sleep on a bed. What Penelope didn’t know was that the beggar, was actually Odysseus. Before Penelope went to sleep, she told the beggar(Odysseus) about a dream that she had a few days earlier how an eagle swooped down and killed 20 of Penelope's geeses. She didn’t know what that meant, but the beggar explained what it meant to Penelope.
