In the movie, “Thank you for Smoking,” the main character is Nick Naylor, who is lobbyist for the cigarette industry. This movie is a bit dark but I would also consider it to be a comedy. Nick speaks on behalf of the cigarette industry and does not leave out the American Government or the media. From the get go, the movie confronts the previously mentioned topics but underneath it also portrays the relationship between a father and son. Of course this is composed of two words: moral, which is the principle of right and wrong, and flexibility, which is to be easily modified to respond to altered circumstances or conditions. In other words, moral flexibility is defined as not adhering to a certain set of principles, instead of morally adapting to the situation at hand. First of all, people with flexible morals can use it as an escape technique. Including situations that they would be cornered into if they were to stick with their principles. An interesting part of this is that by bending your morals, you not only get away with it, but you do not feel guilty either. Secondly, for those people who stick firmly to their principle would in theory, always chose the action that they believe is right. As for me and my opinion, we all have some sort of moral flexibility to an extent. There are situations where flexible moral is used and there is no right answer. In both situations no one wins. During the conversation the argument turns to whether chocolate ice cream is better than vanilla. Joey supports chocolate by saying, “chocolate is all I need.” To which Nick answers by saying, “Well, I need more than chocolate, and for that matter I need more than vanilla.
