In “The Cask Of Amontillado,” Montresor is presented as cold, vengeful and persuasive. Montresor is shown to be cold and violent when he threw Fortunato into restraints while he was drunk. “...I had fettered him to the granite” (Poe 378). This shows that Montresor is a cold person because he was willing to hurt someone to get what he wanted. During the story, Montresor is also vengeful. He shows this when he thought he needed to get revenge on Fortunato for something extremely insignificant. “...but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge” (Poe 372).
