Monroe doctrine
James Monroe was the fifth president of the United States; he was also the last president to have the status of Founding father. He held the roles of secretary of war and secretary of state as well as the governor of Virginia.
During the first party system there was an unpleasant division between the Federal and democratic/republic parties.
one of Monroe’s primary goals was to get rid of the internal fighting by consolidating parties with hope of eliminating the party system all together.
His plan was composed of three main steps, the first step was to restore the federalist party, the second stage was to refuse any federalist token in his cabinet and the third and last step would be to help merge former federalist with the …show more content…
It has remained unchanged for two hundred years. Monroe first stated the idea during the seventh state of the union speech after the economic conditions in Spain allowed most of south American countries to declare their independence. This policy was the result of Napoleonic wars and the fear of European countries turning into monarchies.
