Monologue Of A Confederate Nurse

The hospitals and field station are so so small and have limited supplies. There are many other women here working as nurses. They seem nice but hospitals are so chaotic and disorganized.

The confederate just had a huge battle that I need to tell you about. It is the battle of Antietam. I am called that because it is next to Antietam Creek south of Gettysburg. Robert E. Lee was leading the troops to Sharpsburg, Maryland. He came up with this great plan that could definitely defeat the Union. When we were halfway there he could find it. He soon found out the Union had found his plans. I couldn't

The Gettysburg campaign (several related operations aimed at subduing the Union) was the Confederacy’s last ditch attempt to turn the war in their favor. Although the history books now tell us that Lee’s army failed and were forced from the deep North never to return that far ever again (Doc A), we lest not forget an alternative scenario in which Lee’s army won. Had this scenario occurred, then the North would be on the ropes, as the Confederacy would not cease to capture everything that belonged to the North. It is worth mentioning that in addition to the superior tactics of General Meade’s Army, the contributions of President Lincoln cannot be overlooked. With a newfound strategy in place called the Anaconda Plan, the North hoped to suffocate (thus the plan’s name) the Confederacy.…

Bull Run, also known as the First Manassas, was the deadliest ground battle the United States had seen in any war up to that point (McDonald, 1999). The battle came after eleven southern states seceded from the union and pushed out union troops from Fort Sumter, South Carolina. The key mistakes made by the Federalist, Union Army, led to a devastating loss and allowed the Confederates to extend the war for another four years. Another battle that the Confederates won was Chancellorsville. Hurst describes how the Union was not prepared for the battle and that contributed to their downfall which the Confederates could interpret as an excuse. “The truth was that neither the commander of the corps nor of the respective divisions whose duty it was to guard the flank had made any preparation to meet the enemy in that direction; The attack of his massed column of 20,000 was a surprise from which the men could not recover- a shock which they could not resist” (p. 56). Yet this is a one-sided view as Hurst was part of the Union Army. South Carolina’s Free South newspaper described the Unions position in the Battle of Chancellorsville differently than Hurst’s account by focusing…

There were many hard fought battles in the Civil War. But, arguably the biggest battle the United States went through, was the Reconstruction of the Civil War. The North may have won the war, but the South got their fair share of victory during reconstruction. The South did everything in their power to make sure “equality” was only preserved for the white man even though slavery was abolished. Once a black man was considered a free slaved, the South would not try to accept change, rather, they refused to respect any freedoms given to a black man.…
