Baz Luhrmann is known for his unique specific style that is used in his Red Curtain Trilogy, this trilogy includes the films The Great Gatsby, Strictly Ballroom and Romeo and Juliet. Luhrmann has taken popular, well-known stories such as Romeo and Juliet and used modern day techniques to create a film that both excites and enthralls audiences while still putting across the story of pain and loss. He succeeds in doing this by using clever and cunning devices, used especially to trick and deceive others.

The use of shots that show a reflection on water or in a mirror is used a lot because this shows the emotion of the characters, Luhrmann also achieves this by using close up shots and eye-level angels, this technique is used to show the facial expression of the character and therefore showing emotion, this also makes the audience feel more intimate with the character because they are so close to them. Luhrmann uses shots that cut from one shot to another very fast, so the scenes change very fast. This makes the scene seems particularly busy. This is used mostly in the fighting, partying and dancing scenes, as seen mostly in Romeo and Juliet. Another technique that he likes to use it to overlay scenes, this could be in the form of writing over a picture as seen in Great Gatsby or the overlay of two images in order to change scenes as seen in Romeo and Juliet.
