This refers to an evolutionary process through which selection occurs by a female chooser to a male chooser. The process of selection regards the attractiveness of the male’s phenotypic traits. Five models have been developed in order to explain the evolution of mate choice. However, for covering this assignment, the Indicator Traits will be highlighted and analyzed. The Indicator Traits suggests that the model of natural selection depends on the identification of specific traits. In this case, the indicator traits are traits that signal a good quality of an individual. Indicator traits are perceived as attractive traits, which indicate a wide genetic quality thus favoring the selection of on member of a particular sex over the other. During the selection process, often the female member of a species desires the specific traits to evolve among her offspring’s. Therefore, the choosy sex believes that by mating with a member of the opposite sex who holds the indicator traits, these genetic benefits will be passed over thus resulting in a high quality offspring (Kokko 2003).
