I went on Mizzou Alternative Break trip to South Carolina this spring break. We were strangers when we started the trip, but we became really close after 7 days of working together. I enjoyed it so much, because we don't usually have chance to share some time together with a group of new friends. Meeting new people is getting in touch with brand new stories and world. It is a very fun experience and I think every one should have some time to meet with new people every now and then, so we are not locked in our own limited

I was sent to a hotel for a total of 10 days, alone with absolutely no one I knew. During this time period I had met numerous students between the ages of 14 and 18 years old. Each of these students had been from a different state, town or city. They each had different backgrounds, cultures, lifestyles, even diets. It was when I had actually started to talk to these people I had realized, I was not in Florida anymore.…

Breaks as Part of the Story Gail Caldwell’s Let’s Take the Long Way Home is a moving portrait of Caroline Knapp and of the grieving process in part because of the author’s use of breaks. The scene and section breaks act almost as interchapters, intervening with elaborating information between scenes, while chapter breaks contain the ethereal emotional states that cannot be recollected into scenes. Let’s Take the Long Way Home follows a generally linear plotline, from Gail’s and Caroline’s initial meeting through Caroline’s death; however, Caldwell occasionally interrupts the story line to elaborate and translate scenes for the reader. She pulls the reader away from the scene and explains why it matters.…

Over summer I went with some friends to the Johnson Shut-ins in Missouri. It was the first time I went camping in years and it was one of the coolest trips I’ve ever been on. It started with the drive which was about two and a half hours through isolated roads which eventually got kind of creepy because we were in the middle of nowhere, every house had confederate flags posted, and we were running out of gas. We finally found the place and found our campground and we wanted to find out what the shut-ins were exactly. It was on the other side of the campground…

My home town of Bensenville is not very large with around 18,000 residents. Currently it is one of those small US towns that is going through slow but constant disintegration. Younger people are moving out because it’s difficult to find employment close by and because the expansion of the O’Hare airport took a big part of the livable area, removing homes and businesses to create new roads and add two new runways. Bensenville has spent millions of dollars to fight the expansion but due to some internal issues with the elected city officials, they have lost the battle and now they are fighting to halt the evolution of Bensenville from a great place to live and raise your family, into the pass-through city, which it is now quickly becoming. Despite all of the changes Bensenville is close to many attractions in Chicago and around the suburbs.…

A place in my hometown just around the corner there are two children, one of a little girl grasping information as much as she can and the second a little boy sleeping soundly. The little boy has a book with a plaque in the grasp of his hand facing the front of the statue. Meanwhile, the little girl is barefoot. Even when the blanket of white snow comes in every year they both were placed at the sight in 2012. It's a place I walk by where it used to only have flowers and a blank space to be filled.…
