Moment by S.J. Scott and Barrie Davenport. I first chose this book because I thought I have ten minutes a day to spare. I wanted to choose the book that would make the biggest impact on my life. There are many benefits to mindfulness. There is evidence that mindfulness helps develop effective emotion regulation in the brain. Even just eight weeks of mindfulness practice can alter the way in which emotions are regulated and processed in the brain (William, 2010).
Mindfulness is also important in relationships. Being able to communicate effectively and being able to be in better tune with relationship stressors. “Mindfulness protects against the emotionally stressful effects of a relationship” (William, 2010).
I can also use mindfulness in a healthcare setting. It will better help me enhance being compassionate and having empathy. Both very important qualities in nursing. Two components of mindfulness are non- judging and non-reacting, these strongly corelate with compassion and empathy. (Kingsbury, 2009). People who have participated in mindfulness -based interventions have reported significant increase in self-awareness, insights about their professional identity.
This information will affect me by allowing me to create my own inner peace. I am going to really try to live in the moment and enjoy what I am doing free of worrying about other
