Minimum Wage In The United States

Minimum wage has been hotly debated in this country. When Franklin D. Roosevelt was president he introduced the Fair Labor Standards Act. The Fair Labor Standards Act is the reason we have minimum wages in America. Franklin D. Roosevelt said in a statement “It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country.” (Franklin Roosevelt, Statement on N.I.R.A.,1933) There in his own words he wanted all Americans to be able to live off livable wages. He goes on to say “[…]and by living wages I mean more than a bare subsistence level-I mean the wages of decent living.” (Franklin Roosevelt, Statement on N.I.R.A.,1933) The same president who introduced our basic minimum wage laws wanted Americans to be able to survive comfortably in America. With the minimum wage we are at right now. The time is now that we increase the minimum wage so Americans can live a decent life. Being able to live under a roof is an essential part of living. Most of our day to day activities consist of some sort of electricity. The refrigerator is an excellent example. Food is essential but will rot fairly quickly without proper refrigeration.
