Milwaukee Art Museum Analysis

For the visual arts, art commentary, I visited the Milwaukee Art Museum with my significant other on the afternoon of Saturday, November the 18th. When we arrived at the Milwaukee Art Museum, we were wowed by the expansive building’s impressive architecture. The walls of the entrance consisted of arching windows overlooking Lake Michigan. The museum could be said to be visual artwork in itself, but the actual gallery component was a multi-level structure holding visual artwork spanning multiple time periods and various forms of media. The first level held contemporary art, European artwork, and 20th-21rst century design work. This is the level that we perused for the longest amount of time due to the contemporary artwork being less “straightforward”

“As a question of architectural ambition, art museums are the new churches…” Jason Fargo states his point rather decisively. But what would induce one to agree? How does Fargo present his case in a way which attracts the reader to both continue reading and eventually, support his statement. The St Louis City Museum has been described as a giant playground, and with good reason. In fact, entering there might give you a pleasant surprise; unlike other museums that are dry and boring, it features fun and quirky exhibits. Recycled items can be found side by side with giant slides, the insides of planes, and even a pipe organ. If these aren't enough to convince you to book in one of the hotels and vacation rentals near St Louis City Museum, maybe the neighborhood will, as there are also attractions nearby. For instance, you can catch a show at the Peabody Opera House or a game at the Busch Stadium.…

There are many exhibitions being shown at the SCAD Museum of Art. Two that caught my eye were "Considered” and “Blood Bound.” In the work of “Considered,” artist Carrie Mae Weems conveys a range of her work that is confrontationally different and but associated with the focus on the consideration of history. In “Blood Bound,” two brothers Steven and William Ladd worked together on their first all-inclusive look into their shared studio practice.…

The State Art Museum of Florida, known as The Ringling , was once owned by one of the wealthiest men of the Roaring twenties, John Ringling. This museum is located in Sarasota, Florida and houses some of the most prominent works of art representing the culture and time of Europe back then and still continues to grow to this day. It opened it doors to the public in 1931, which was two years after the death of John’s wife Mable, hoping it would “promote education and art appreciation, especially among our young people.” John Ringling owned and operated a circus with four of his six brothers and it’s name was the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus. While he gained great success with the circus he developed a voracious passion for…

Museums are visited by many Americans on a regular basis. However, there are multiple types of museums and each one of them serves a unique purpose; varying in nature, types of art, along with delivering a pleasurable experience. To the inexperienced appreciator of art, looking at certain pieces can leave one aghast. This paper is an attempt to help those individuals understand art by exploring two different museums; the Japanese American National Museum in Little Tokyo, California and the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Los Angeles. We will evaluate the museums in terms of location, goals, heritage and how they all are synergistic.…

My initial plan was to simply find a piece of artwork that I was immediately drawn to, because it would mean that it was something I wanted to learn more about. This was definitely the most simple of the displays put here because all of the paintings were lifelike and easy to decipher because they were also more straightforward and seldom open to interpretation unlike the photos in Concentrations 60. Overall, visiting the Dallas Museum of Art was a new and exciting experience because its exhibits really opens one’s eyes as to how art alone reflects different periods of time, cultures, and places around the world and evolves as does humanity. Moreover, it shows how art does not come from culture, but creates it and often evinces the psyche of its…

In 1994, the administrators of the Milwaukee Art Museum set out to create a " majestic new entrance, a point of orientation for visitors and a redefinition of the Museum's identity through the creation of a powerful image. " Up to that time, there were two buildings that made up the Milwaukee Art Museum, one, the main building that had been designed by Eeron Saarinen in 1957 in homage to the victims of the war, also another addition that was projected by the architect David Kahler in 1975 by means of a block-shaped module. Both buildings were located between the Lincoln Memorial and the lake, but there was the disadvantage that the Museum could only be accessed through the entrance of the main building designed by Saarinen, and the extension projected by David Kahler was very low on the floors inferiors, without any interconnection with the city.…

Gallery Report According to Confucius, “Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.” As a NIACC student taking Art History II, I agree with Confucius, there is beauty in everything, but not everyone sees it. When viewing the North Iowa Area Community College Auditorium Art Gallery in Mason City, Iowa on Monday that is presenting “Painting & Mixed Media,” I can’t help but to be mystified by Rita Kirsch Dungey’s work. Rita’s work is a temporary NIACC art showcase that shows from February 16th through April 13th, 2016 along side of John Rodman’s “Photographs.”…

There are many beautiful sculptures at the University of Toledo, it was hard for me to pick two to discuss. The thing that makes all of the sculptures different is that they were all given or made for different reasons. Some were given in contribution to professors, some made by professors or students, and some given just to contribute to the beauty of the University’s campus. The University of Toledo has such a beautiful campus, and it is all due to these wonderful sculptures around Centennial Mall. The two sculptures that I chose to write about are The Gardener and Time Traveler.…

For our second exhibit review I chose to visit the Cleveland Museum of Art, mainly because I had never been to the Art museum before. Originally, I had wanted to review the Pharaoh: King of Egypt exhibition that is visiting the museum. I have always been fascinated with Ancient Egypt history, and the website states visitors can “uncover the stories behind ancient Egypt’s legendary rulers through stunning objects from the vast Egyptian holdings of the British Museum.” Who doesn’t want to experience that? However, upon arriving to the museum, we realized that patrons have to pay for admission to that exhibit-…

The publication “The Museum as Context” by Amy Tucker analyzes the environment of the museum and how culture and context is changed depending on the environment art is presented in. The purpose of art exhibitions is to show the audience an organized presentation of particular art pieces. The question raised in this chapter is whether the organization of the presentation is precise to represent each piece of work and does this representation distort the meaning of a piece. There are many ways art exhibitions are presented and displayed, from light to temperature. Exhibits can be considered a piece of art themselves due to the specific arrangements and methods of displaying items to connect the viewers with each piece of work.…
