Milutin Milankovitch's Three Orbital Parameters

Improved Essays
The planet Earth orbits in such a way that it can cause an ice age. In order for this type of ice age to occur there would have to be many different things that must occur all at once. There is nothing the human civilization could possibly do about the orbit either to prevent the ice age. Milutin Milankovitch discovered the three orbital parameters that can cause an ice age if the conditions were all to align.
Milankovitch’s three different orbital parameters include Earth’s eccentricity, axial obliquity, and the earth’s precision. Earth’s orbital eccentricity can be explained by how the earth travels around the sun. The earth goes around the sun in an oval shape not a perfect circle. This means sometimes the earth is closer to the sun, and

Long ago, people believed that the Earth was the center of the universe, and that all the stars, planets, and other celestial bodies orbited around it. However, as pivotal discoveries were made and new theories emerged, society gained a much more insightful understanding of the cosmos above. In the second century, an astronomer by the name of Claudius Ptolemy proposed his geocentric model of the solar system, which depicted Earth in the center of the universe and the planets and the Sun orbiting in concentric circles around it. There were problems with this model, however, and years later an astronomer named Nicolaus Copernicus proposed another model which showed the Sun at the center.…

Within this content, there are certain topics that relate to the film “Chasing Ice” such as, the impacts of global warming and the annual global temperature rise. The content suggests, that although no one can exactly forecast the exact effects on the increased temperature, “some experts have predicted severe droughts and a rise in ocean leaves of 0.6 meters (2 feet) to 6 meters (20 feet)- conditions that will affect everyone on Earth” (Hales, & Lauzon, 2018). James Balog has also agreed with this, predicting that in his “daughter's lifetimes sea levels will increase between 1.5-3 feet” (----------). The concept also distributes more information on the annual temperature increase. James Balog hypothesizes that this temperature increase is one of the major factors in glacier recession.…

The chart above shows how the extent of ice, in million square kilometers, has gone down throughout the past thirty-six years. If the numbers continue to drop, there will be a drastic affect to the artic ecosystems. This could eventually put many plants and animals on the verge of extinction. Also, the average temperature of permafrost has greatly increased and has become warmer, thus, causing it to have already thawed in many places. Permafrost refers to a layer of soil or rock that is frozen all year round.…

The three forces are the earth eccentricity, obliquity, and precision. Eccentricity of the earth refers to how the earth deviates its elliptical orbit around the sun. When the earth has a more elongated orbital path it causes longer and colder seasons, and vice versa. The eccentricity cycle is the part of the Milankovitch forces that last 100,000 years. Obliquity refers to the tilt of the earth long its axis relative to how it is facing the sun.…

One effective way that we can cure the effects of global warming, is to cut back on the use of unnecessary energy. By reducing the use of unnecessary energy, we can limit the amount of carbon being released into the atmosphere. Another effective way to counteract global warming is to carpool and use renewable fuels. This would be the biggest help towards stopping global warming. Firstly, there wouldn’t be that many emissions going into the atmosphere.…

There are a lot of causes that causes global warming. First of all, burning fossil fuels such as oil and coal to generate the electricity and to run the vehicles, traps the gas which cause global warming. The more we burn the fossil fuels, the faster the climate will change. Second cause of global warming is deforestation. Plants absorb the carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen.…

To begin, animal population is very important to us humans meanwhile lots of animals and plants are undergoing extinction due to the cause of climate change. These events are most likely occurring because of inaccurate behavior of humans, causing temperatures to rise and lots of greenhouse emission to be released quicker than nature can put it out in a natural occurrence. This process is known as global warming ,making it less efficient for humans and animals to live safely in their environment and habitats. This life threatening event is causing animals to go extinct, humans to have worse weather conditions such as stronger hurricanes and severe heat waves. 2000 species of animals and plants discovered to be making movements towards the poles at an average rate of 3.8 miles per decade.…

Global warming since then generally define as a gradually increasing in temperature, which results in changing global climate permanently. Earth 's climate has been negatively influenced by many direct and indirect ways. Humans can severely damage the quality of climate. Most people are not aware that actions contribute to the decay of the Earth through time. Much research has been focused on the effects of global warming, as a direct result of the elevation of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which originally from global industrialization and modernization.…

Climate change has been happening long before humans. However, the changes are minimal. Earth has been through many stages of global warming and cooling by natural causes. The variations in the Earth’s orbit can fluctuate how warm or cold the temperature can get. The closer the Earth is to the sun, the warmer the climate would be and the farther away from the sun, the cooler it would be.…
