Unfortunately, my professional environment is drastically different than the majority of this class. Working Department of Defense for the US military, either for the Army in Kuwait (Combat Support Associates) or Iraq (SOC), the Marines in Afghanistan (Triple Canopy), the Pueblo Chemical Depot for the Army (DOD) or the US Air Force Academy (Chenega) for the Air Force there are specific guideline to address the issue. All of the facilities and installations except the Air Force Academy we were authorized computer access. Therefore, we were required when computer access was available to adhere to the specific guidelines, Information Security Training and OpSec training.
Training concerning Information Security and OpSec for Triple Canopy was conducted at the Joint Emergency Services Training Center, in Louisiana and readdressed or reinforced at the Pre-deployment center at Camp Atterbury. SOC conducted training at their training facility and once again reinforced in country, Combat Support Associates training was conducted online and readdressed at Camp Arifjan once we arrived in country.

So there is specific guidelines and protocol this is established by the Department of Defense. My active duty time followed the same criteria that is the standard for security contracting which was previously mentioned with my operational organizations.
As for accountability, that is a good question. Personally, I have possessed both a Top Secret clearance when on active duty and a Secret clearance when employed as a security operator. The two greatest weaknesses of the book are a lack of emphasis or attention applied to the responsibilities of senior leaders as well as the “real-estate” of the book applied towards Close Quarters Defense (CQD), the Navy’s hand-to-hand combat training. While Couch utilizes his example of CQD as a method the Navy employs to teach discipline and ethics, he devotes 10 out of 113 pages of his book to it. Instead, I believe the book could have been further strengthened by commentary on the failures existent within the mid and upper-tier leadership ranks within the military; specifically, toxic command climates and unethical behavior albeit non-tactical in nature. Nonetheless, Couch’s final chapter provides solutions to improving ethical behavior in a succinct manner. Overall, I enjoyed the book and can cite numerous instances from my own personal career where I would echo Couch’s advice and solutions to ethical dilemmas within our ranks.…

In 1987 The Joint Commission (TJC) started developing a set of performance measures; which is now called the ORYX initiative, and are now known today as core measures (Commission, The Joint). The ORYX initiative offered significant flexibility for organizations to meet specific accreditation guidelines, which inherently caused a dilemma in that it was unable to compare data across several systems and between different measures (Commission, The Joint). By using the input from several different clinical professionals within the scope of healthcare, the TJC addressed this issue through institution of the use of standardized, evidenced based practice; known as a core measure (Commission, The Joint). The reason why accountability is so important in the military is because in most situations, it can be a matter of life and death.
