Military Aid Research Paper

Nations are not the only entities capable of providing aid, and much of the individual work done in foreign countries comes from the private sector of society. Military aid will almost always require a government presence, but smaller expeditions, such as volunteers sent to teach, or distribute medicine, or provide service, act independently from the government. These organizations often provide a large amount of disaster relief as well, collecting and distributing donations of food, clean water, toiletries, clothing, and various other supplies for people who have lost everything. The focus of these groups fall more on the people within the countries; there are organizations dedicated to assisting the impoverished –such as CARE or the Catholic Relief Service, to providing medical care to those “endangered by war, civil strife, epidemics or natural disasters,” as seen in the …show more content…
Foreign assistance should not be used in all situations, but only in times of crisis; following the advent of a war, in the midst of a war, natural disaster, pandemic, or other immediate concerns. Aid cannot be given without cause. If the problem is largely economic, then simple donations will not help in the long term; what is instead needed is the foundation for a healthy, growing economy that the nation can sustain on its own. “One way of aiding Third World nations is through free trade. By lowering our import barriers, we can allow the private sectors of the Third World easier access to our markets. With the huge markets of the United States available for their products, entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to develop new industries or expand old ones.” Opening trade is often a mutually beneficial relationship that establishes and promotes growth over the long run.
