Michelle Banks was born on February 24, 1968 in Washington D.C and had an older brother. She was not born deaf but at the age of one Michelle became ill with spinal meningitis and lost her hearing. Michelle’s parents and family were hearing. Michelle Banks did influence history because she proved that any deaf person can do what they dream of. She has added to Deaf Culture by exceeding the false beliefs of the hearing community, that because a person is deaf they cannot do what they believe in.
If I were to meet Michelle Banks I would like to ask if there is anything she wished she had done or is there anything she would want to take back throughout her life. I would also ask if she had any doubts about accomplishing her goals. As well as, if there was a point where she thought she could not accomplish what she wanted because she was deaf. I find it interesting and satisfying to know that although people have their doubts about themselves because of their disabilities that they kept on pushing themselves to strive for great things that they knew would positively impact their lives. I learned about a woman that took the chance of becoming what she wanted to be. I learned that the deaf community is as strong and thriving and as successful as the hearing
