Michelangelo - Michelangelo is widely regarded as the most famous artist of the Italian Renaissance. Among his works are the "David" and "Pieta" statues and the Sistine Chapel frescoes. His works are characterized as monumental, muscular figures with reclining, twisted poses in his sculptures and painting compositions based on diagonal lines and curves . Michelangelo did not believe that beauty was guaranteed through the application of mathematic proportions and ratios. Instead, he asserted that beauty should be kept in the eye and based on visual perception. His artwork combines ideal beauty with emotional expressiveness. His pieces are considered godlike.
