In 1501, he received commission to build a male human figure for a cathedral in Florence. Three years later Michelangelo finished his work, which now is known as a masterpiece. It is a sculpture of biblical hero, named David. A young shepherd whom God chose to be the King of Israeli, and whom he guided himself.
In biblical story, Israeli was in war with Philistines, and Goliath, a giant twice as big in size, threatened its people. While everyone was looking at the giant in fear, David looked at him, thinking instead of a way to defeat him. Michelangelo reflected it in his statue through his thoughtful presence,
