People from the country of Mexico usually have three meals throughout the day. The first meal is called “el desayuno” which is breakfast. The people of Mexico usually have breakfast sometime between 7 and 10 in the morning. Breakfast can be anything from a bowl of freshly sliced fruit to a cup of coffee and some empanadas which usually have some sort of cheese or meat inside of them. There are other breakfast options like toast, yogurt, sweet bread, and of course, last night’s leftovers. For “el almuerzo” or lunch which is the most important meal of the day in Mexico and usually the biggest is eaten sometime around 1 to 4 in the afternoon. During lunch people will usually have some sort of appetizer and followed by the main dish which is usually consists of rice, beans, some sort of protein, and some warm homemade tortillas. Lunch is also usually when the whole family will get together to have a nice chat before going back to work or back to school. Then sometime around 8 to 9 people will have dinner, which is called “la cena”, dinner is usually the smallest meal of the day, unlike in places like the US where dinner is the biggest and most important meal of the day. After the Spanish conquered Mexico in 1521, many of their food traditions were integrated into the Mexican food culture. Also, with the Colombian exchange many new form of livestock and fruits and vegetables were introduced like, sheep, pig, horses, peaches, bananas, grapes, and sugar cane. The Columbian exchanged helped to pave the way for a larger food pallet. Everything that the Spanish had introduced to Mexico really transformed the way in which people in Mexico eat
