Metaphors In Literature

During trimester one we learned about different skills in literature or also known as Literary terms. For the first trimester we learned over 19 literary terms and they were each different. They were defiantly helpful when we were reading Whirligig but, can these skills be used in other classes? So the first literary term I chose was number four or point of view or POV. There are three types of point of view, 1st person, 2nd person, and 3rd person. 1st and 3rd person are the ones that we mostly focused on in class. Plus there are three types of 3rd person. Simile is when you compare two things with the words like or as. A metaphor on the other hand, metaphor is basically the same thing except you don't use comparison words. There are also two other types of metaphor, extended metaphor and mixed metaphor. Extended metaphor is just what it sounds like. It could be strectched for a whole paragraph or the whole piece of work. Mixed metaphor is when the author uses to many metaphors in a pice of work, to the point wher it becomes confusing. In P.E. it's used a lot during workouts and our unit now which is weight room. For example when you do push ups our teachers say to make our arms flat across like a bench. Or when we do stretches they tell the flexible people you're a human rubber band. I found that's is sometimes used in social studies when comparing sizes of countries and populations. Foreshadow and flashback are two antonyms but are kind of the same. Foreshadowing is when the reader uses clues to predict what's going to happen. Flashback is when a story gets interrupted to go to an event from the past. Flashback is pretty common in sci-fi novels like The Maze Runner and the Divergent Series. But flashback rarely occurs in real life. I first noticed foreshadowing in science while doing an experiment. We were doing the mystery liquid lab and we had to make hypothesizes. It's really common in science because your hypothesis is like foreshadowing but there are no clues. Also in art, the pieces that artists create can sometimes be related to a flashback or foreshadow. Usually when art pieces are based on flashback black and white are often used. In foreshadow it's more futuristic and modern
