Metabolism: Converting Food To Energy

The purpose of the metabolism is to convert food to energy to run cellular processes, the conversion of food to building blocks for proteins, lipids nucleic acids and some carbohydrates and the elimination of nitrogenous waste.
The process of cell respiration releases the energy in molecules such as glucose and lipids and this energy is transferred into the chemical adenosine triphosphate. Energy from carbohydrates is used to contract muscles by the breakdown of adenosine triphosphate. ATP stores are used up very quickly during exercise, especially that of high intensity.
The body uses many energy pathways to regenerate ATP.
