He defends his position, stating his rights of faith granted by the Constitution of the United States. He believes that there exists only one God. Paine further opens an important chapter in this discussion. His belief in the continuity of life even after death and that death is a transition to the next life. His thoughts resemble those found in Christian teachings. Even so, Paine indicates that he does not believe in any religion, but his mind. He believes that religions are human creations meant to manipulate and swindle people. Paine pinpoints several areas in beliefs that show mischief like the belief that Quran was written in heaven and sent to Prophet Mohammed, Genesis victory of God over Satan where Satan was sent into a pit, yet Satan comes back to manipulate the people. This force is responsible for the order we experience on earth on the things surrounding us. God is the creator of the universe and controls what goes on in the world. If things were happening on their own as Russell explains, how can one explain the seasons, phenomenon like rainfall, wind and air? Perhaps one may attribute these to science. But who gives these scientists the knowledge to conduct these experiments and make these discoveries? If evolution is responsible for our behaviors, why are there still apes? Why don’t they evolve to humans, and have we reached the peak of development? Atheists dispute the presence of a Supreme Being or Supreme power that controls the universe. Analyzing different religions in the world, though they may have different names or titles for the Supreme Being, they believe in the existence. Most of these religions attribute their existence to the Supreme Being. This is not just a mere coincidence. Going through the history of different faiths, one would realize that each came into existence at a different period and in a different location. There is no way that the founders of different religions would decide to meet and create the world’s largest conspiracy in the name of the Supreme Being.
