The intellectually ill frequently slip through humanity’s cracks going without a cure and treatment that is essential to conduct productive, or at a minimum, stable lives…mentally ill repeatedly want a voice (National). The few that get treated often get swept under the rug and do not get their sides expressed to the world. This is not helping the management process because education is the key to the moving forward of our country. It makes people feel uncomfortable to they almost pretend that it is not an issue, just because it does not involve them. They are choosing to turn their faces on learning more. When extremely sick folks do not ingest their medication, they are at a considerable higher risk to commit crimes, critics reported (National). Not administering the facts and statistics about mental disease and necessary medical treatment promotes the patients to believe there is nothing wrong with them. Joey, a twelve year old boy, suffering from anxiety, made his mother feel as if, “he would follow me into the toilet.” However, his father just thought his wife was being too gentle with their son (American). Thousands of kids like Joey go untreated every year. Not enough people are being educated on the habits that come with these illnesses. Two professors from Harvard and Boston University, Richard Frank and Thomas McGuire respectively, realized in a recent study that there should be separate insurance for patients who need assistance dealing with their mental health. It should also consider the type of treatment, so the prices can drop significantly (National). The researchers are making an effort to raise awareness towards lower health care practices. By doing this more people can obtain and maintain treatment. Proponents of helping the mentally ill wrote: In August 2002, a New York City teenager boy with Paranoid Schizophrenia committed suicide after learning that he and his homeless family might be thrown out of their temporary living space.
