Mental Health Nursing Personal Statement Examples

I wish to train to become a mental health nurse due to the professional as well caring nature of the nurses I have met previously. It was first, my gran being rushed to hospital for a major operation that gave me a strong realisation as well as appreciation for the nurses within this profession. Secondly, a family member who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and other mental illnesses was later rushed to hospital after suffering a serious 'episode'. In time of need, I was moved by the level and quality of care and support my family received on both cases from the nurses within each of these departments. This allowed me to become aware and deeply interested towards the importance of nurses, especially in the mental health aspect, which in my opinion is just as vital as an individual's physical health. I have always been motivated by an emotional and caring instinct that has driven me to work in a role that helps other people in some way, and with my past experiences this confirmed that mental health nursing was best suited for me. Both these topics drew my attention as mental illness plays a factor within my life as well as the people around me. Also some family members suffer from both addiction and mental illness, which always made me look out for them that little bit more, I was able to empathise as I knew how I felt due to my mental health. Through this, it has made me realise that I want to advance in it and obtain a career in this field in the future.
My goal for the future would be that I am looking forward to adapting to life at university to become a qualified mental health nurse and with this course, it would allow this to happen.
